The SZRU Chairman’s Greetings on Independence Day of Ukraine and the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine

Dear Officers of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, dear our Veterans!

On the 23rd and 24th of August we celebrate the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine and Independence Day of Ukraine, honor the centuries-old history of Ukrainian statehood, strengthen our spirit and get united around the main national symbols of Ukraine.

Just like a thousand years ago, we continue to do our best to build our own state. And like a hundred years ago, we are struggling to maintain our independence.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko spoke clearly about the unity of the Ukrainian people and its desire for a better future, emphasizing that “Our army defends our land. Our language defends our hearts. Our faith defends our souls”.

Indeed, for the fifth consecutive year, we have been defending Ukraine from the Russian aggressor, who has the second army in the world. For the fifth year in a row, we have been reviving our language and culture, counteracting the expansion of the “Russian world” with its green men, terrorists, murderers and butchers, with whom Ukrainians “got acquainted” in the temporarily occupied territories of the Donbas and the Crimea.

And after the Ukrainian President’s meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, once again, and, I am sure, for the last time, we are returning the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, which Moscow stole in an insidious way in the middle of the 17th century.

Celebrating the 27th anniversary of the declaration of Ukraine’s independence, we can proudly state that over the past four years, Ukrainians have finally torn up the communist shackles, have said farewell to the “unwashed Russia”, and have confidently begun our return to the European home.

But the Kremlin is so used to having us in its orbit and depending on us spiritually and physically, that it clings to every Ukrainian, to every page of the ancient and rich history of Ukraine-Rus, which Muscovy also keeps trying to steal from us.

Today, before our eyes, there is actually a revival of the new state, strengthening of its Armed Forces, and the development of the entire national security sector.

And I am happy to say that thanks to our joint work, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine is also reviving today.

I am sure that, despite the threats that our state is facing today and the difficult times that Ukrainian people are experiencing at this historic stage, Ukraine has been and will be an Independent Sovereign State, and Ukrainians – a Great People!

Glory to Ukraine!

Chairman of the Service Yehor Bozhok
