A New National Holiday Adopted in Ukraine – the Day of the Foreign Intelligence of Ukraine

On 22nd November 2018, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the Decree No. 381/2018 under which the 24th of January is the Day of the Foreign Intelligence of Ukraine.

By this Decree, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko for the first time in the history of the Ukrainian State introduced the official holiday of Ukrainian intelligence officers.

The day chosen for this holiday is very symbolic. It was on 24th January 1919 that the first unit of the national intelligence was created in the Ukrainian People’s Republic. From that day on, as part of the Political Department of the UPR of the Directory, began to operate a Department of Foreign Information whose task was intelligence work on enemies actively acting against the UPR and on the countries – potential enemies.

January 24, 2019, Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence will celebrate at the state level its 100th anniversary, paying a tribute to this glorious page in the centuries-long chronicle of our state and reviving our national intelligence identity.
