belarus: Education Under the Control of Ideology and the Army

In 2021–2025, belarus’s education system is gradually forming a consistent course towards ideologization and militarization. This is stated in an analytical report by the international initiative iSANS.

According to experts, by 2025, the militarization of education in the country has become systemic. The process covers all levels of education, from kindergartens to universities. Military-patriotic elements are most actively introduced into the school curriculum, where they have become a familiar part of the educational process over the past four years.

A significant increase has also been observed in colleges and universities, where cooperation with law enforcement agencies is growing. Only preschool education remains less affected, although the authorities are constantly trying to change this trend.

Militarization of belarusian education manifests itself in the consolidation of military components at the institutional level, regular contacts between educational institutions and law enforcement agencies, and educational programs merging with state ideology.

Thus, the rb’s education system is being transformed into a tool for preparing young people for service in security forces and, at the same time, into a mechanism for forming a generation loyal to the current regime, which, according to analysts, should ensure its political survival in the future.
