Betrayal by the State and the Church Is Driving russians to Fortune-Tellers and Paranomalists
4/10/2026

putin’s russia continues to sink into the Middle Ages. According to the all-russian center for the study of public opinion (VTsIOM), 85% of russians have turned to magic at least once in search of solutions to various problems, while 80% believe in the supernatural. This shift in public trust reflects people’s disillusionment with state institutions and spiritual authorities. Society is reacting painfully to the realities of the present and sees salvation exclusively in the occult. In other words, the process of replacing one set of myths with another is actively underway.
First and foremost, russians no longer believe in the narrative of putin as an all-powerful leader. The kremlin cannot provide its citizens with the promised stability. Mobilization, war casualties, sanctions, economic collapse, fear, and hopelessness – these are the defining trends of the present for the russian population. Most russians are beginning to realize that their idol has led the country into a dead end, so they are left to rely solely on miracles, good luck charms, and spells against draft notices. Over the past year, demand for various magical items in russia has grown by 50%.
At the same time, the situation in the country is undermining even the “traditional” spiritual values promoted by russia. The local church, having been transformed into an ideological unit of the ministry of defense against the background of the war against Ukraine, has lost its moral authority. The well-known “russian world” brings believers death notices and isolation instead of global triumph. At such moments, faith crumbles, and people scatter among sects and fortune-tellers in search of an understanding of what is happening.
Today, the situation in russia closely resembles the late 1980s and early 1990s in the ussr. Back then, against the background of the collapse of fundamental soviet atheism and an ideological vacuum, millions of disillusioned people gathered in front of their televisions in search of salvation from their country’s collapse.
The seeds of serfdom are already visible in the rf, so the totalitarian inquisition of the 21st century – russia’s repressive apparatus – will destroy the russian pseudo-empire.
