The negligence of russian officials could cause the deaths of schoolchildren while they are attending classes. 510 schools in the rf have been declared unsafe. Almost every fourth russian school is in need of capital repair. The highest number of such schools are in Murmansk (77 %) and Kirov (69 %) regions. In the years 2024 – 2025, walls, ceilings, or roofs collapsed in 31 educational institutions in the rf.

As of 2024, 5 % of school buildings in the country do not have central heating or running water, 6 % do not have sewage systems. More than half of schools in the Republic of Tyva, and more than 40 % of schools in Dagestan and the Republic of Sakha do not have sewage systems. The same regions are leaders in terms of the number of “unsafe schools”.

Local authorities explain this situation by a lack of money for repairs. At the same time, the kremlin will spend a third of the 2025 budget on the war against Ukraine and maintaining the rf’s army.
