The Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (SUPO) Has Announced Recruitment of Agents with Emphasis on Being Proficient in the russian and Chinese Languages
3/11/2026

The Finnish Security Intelligence Service (SUPO) has launched a recruitment campaign for its human intelligence (HUMINT) unit, giving priority to candidates who are fluent in russian or Chinese. The goal is to strengthen the state’s intelligence capabilities and counter hybrid threats.
Head of the data gathering department P. Hiltunen, who is coordinating the campaign, has emphasized the priority of attracting professionals from the civilian sector without prior experience in the field of national security. According to him, the current geopolitical situation is creating increased demand for foreign language speakers.
Requirements for candidates include Finnish citizenship, a university degree in any field, a category B driver’s license, and willingness to travel on business. In addition to russian and Chinese, applicants with knowledge of English, French, Spanish, and rare languages are also being considered. The salary ranges from EUR 4,800 to EUR 5,500 per month.
The russian propaganda machine, as always captive to its own paranoid narratives, was quick to interpret the initiative as an “unfriendly move” and alleged proof of increased intelligence activity against russia following Finland’s accession to NATO, separately warning about the “risks” of involving russians abroad in cooperation.
The announced recruitment reflects Finland’s further adaptation to new threats amid foreign intelligence services’ growing activity in the Baltic Sea region.
