There Are Plans to Restrict International Calls for russians, While Officials Hold Assets Abroad

In russia, there is a noticeable imbalance between the restrictions imposed on ordinary russians and the approach to monitoring government officials.

The government’s legislative commission has issued a negative opinion on an initiative that would ban lawmakers and civil servants from owning real estate abroad. Although the authors of the draft law emphasized the risks of foreign influence through overseas assets, the document was deemed “needing substantial revision”.  Thus, restrictions on officials in this area effectively remain nonexistent.

At the same time, for ordinary russians, there are plans to ban even incoming international calls from a number of “unfriendly countries” without the subscriber’s prior consent, as well as to demand mandatory labeling of such calls. Some initiatives also call for the automatic blocking of international calls for senior people.

 “roskomnadzor” has also suggested that russians abroad specify recommended russian proxy servers in their settings, thereby slowing down their own messenger service.

Besides, current labor laws effectively make it impossible to formally register remote work outside the country. russia’s labor code requires specifying a place of work, and its provisions apply only within the territory of the rf.
