Stories About Spies: Ambush on the River Prut
5/19/2025

The next episode of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine’s podcast “Stories About Spies” is about the Cossack army led by Hetman Yakiv Borodavka-Neroda. Perhaps for the first time in the history of the Ukrainian army, he resorted to the tactics of using numerous reconnaissance units not only to collect information but also to impose battles on the Turkish-Tatar advance units. This was not the combat reconnaissance known since ancient times. The new tactics was used to disorient the enemy about the paths of movement of the main forces, to throw the enemy off course, to force it to move through the devastated territory, to slow down the enemy’s movement, and thus to allow the Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian troops to unite for a decisive battle.
