A Collapse Is Expected in the rf’s Market of Passenger Air Transportation
7/15/2025

The crisis in the russian passenger air transportation industry is intensifying. Western sanctions do not allow russian airlines to use Boeing and Airbus international service centers. “Parallel imports” have raised aircraft service prices for the company by 38 %. 50 % of the Airbus fleet in russia is already idle “on concrete”. S7 alone has 31 of the 39 Airbus A320/321 aircrafts “on the ground”.
Since the beginning of 2025, the airports of the rf have stopped their work 455 times and redirected planes to reserve airfields 736 times. The losses of air carriers as a result of the July 5–7 airline collapse alone exceeded 250 million dollars.
Carriers are trying to compensate for losses at the expense of passengers, which only causes a backlash. The average price of an air ticket to recreation areas in the rf this year is almost 400 US dollars – which is by 12.5 % higher than last year, and in the near future it will increase by another 15 %. As a result, the passenger flow of russian airlines will decrease by at least 7 %.
The aircraft industry of the rf is also in decline. New, promised on paper, russian aircrafts have already risen in price by 45–70 % of the planned cost while still under construction and testing.
Losses of the civil aviation are forecast at the level of 50 to 100 aircrafts every year – in 2027, the industry may collapse.
