Every Third Company in russia Operates at a Loss
9/3/2025

In the first half of 2025, the share of loss-making organizations in russia rose to 30.4 % – the highest since 2020. Almost 19,000 companies reported total losses of more than $62 billion. For comparison, in most developed countries, the share of loss-making enterprises is 10 –20 %.
The largest losses were recorded in the coal industry, energy, water supply, and waste disposal. Construction and production of durable goods – from cars to industrial equipment – also remain under pressure.
Increased losses reduce tax revenues, lower investment activity, and increase debt burdens. This forces banks to restructure loans more often and increases the risk of bankruptcies and inflationary pressure. As a result, the share of loss-making companies in russia is expected to grow further.
