Millions of innocent people fell victim to artificial famine – a crime committed by the totalitarian soviet regime aimed at destroying the Ukrainian nation. In the 20th century, food was deliberately used as a means for mass destruction of Ukrainians.

The Holodomor of 1932–1933 is recognized as one of the greatest crimes against humanity. Current russia’s aggression against Ukraine is accompanied by the use of similar methods – attempts to deprive Ukrainians of their right to life, freedom, and development.

The state and society have a shared responsibility – to ensure victory over the aggressor and preserve the historical memory of the victims of genocide. Honoring their memory is a sign of respect for the past, an affirmation of historical justice, and a reminder of the inevitability of punishment for crimes against humanity.

On this day, bowing our heads in sorrow, we light a candle of remembrance – a symbol of gratitude, unity, and steadfastness of the Ukrainian people.
