The Future of Global Security Was Discussed at the Aspen Forum

The annual Aspen Security Forum, one of the most influential platforms where current and former officials, diplomats, and analysts discuss the future of global security, took place in Aspen, Colorado, from July 14 through 17. This year’s program covered the adaptation of the international security system to new geopolitical realities, trade disputes, energy diversification, and the development of defense technologies and artificial intelligence. Separate panels were dedicated to the rf’s war against Ukraine, as well as to China, iran, Israel, the Arctic, and the Middle East. The Forum has been held since 2010 and traditionally brings together representatives of governments, international organizations, the expert community, and the media.

The main theme of the event was the transformation of the USA’s foreign policy, as well as the intensification of trade and economic competition with Beijing, particularly regarding tariff policy and technological rivalry.

The panel entitled “Bear in Mind: Ukraine and Russia”, which took place on July 16, was particularly relevant to the Ukrainian context. Participants in the discussion included former US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Estonia Kaupo Rosin, and CEO of Newsmax Media Christopher Ruddy. Rosin stated that the russian leadership is gradually losing resources and confidence in its ability to achieve a “complete victory” over Ukraine.

Biegun, on the other hand, emphasized the broader dimension of the issue. The outcome of the war, he said, will directly determine the strategic interests of the United States itself, because a victory for moscow would only deepen its alignment with Beijing, Tehran, and other adversaries of Washington. This statement shows that the United States currently views russia’s war against Ukraine not as an isolated regional conflict, but as an integral part of a global confrontation with moscow, Beijing, and Tehran simultaneously.
