The kremlin Is Looking for New Cannon Fodder on the Islands of Indonesia

russia continues to systematically recruit foreigners to fight in the war against Ukraine. For the kremlin, every foreign recruit serves several purposes at once: in particular, they fill personnel gaps on the front lines and serve as propaganda fodder to support the narrative of alleged global support for the “special military operation”. Another reason for recruiting foreigners is the growing domestic dissatisfaction with the socioeconomic situation, the war, and plans for a new wave of mobilization (dissatisfaction rates reach 69%) and, consequently, a decline in the number of people willing to voluntarily sign up. Indonesia has become the latest example of this pattern.

The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine has obtained documents on at least eight Indonesian citizens who were recruited into the ranks of the rf’s occupying army.

The scheme moscow uses to recruit foreign cannon fodder has already been tested in dozens of other countries. Promises of high pay, non-combat duties, expedited russian citizenship, and social benefits attract people who, more often than not, have no idea where they are actually being sent. The same pattern has previously been used with citizens of Nepal, Cuba, Kenya, and India: most of them ended up on the front lines without any training, and some were killed within the first few weeks.

Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim country with a population of over 280 million, has joined the list of countries that the kremlin has turned into yet another source of cheap manpower for the war.
