Ukraine and the World – Against russia’s Aggression. Sanctions in Action

Ukraine has secured $841 million from the World Bank, backed by a guarantee from the government of Canada. The funds will be used to cover pension expenditure.

“We had a lengthy discussion on Ukraine and russia, the need to help our Ukrainian friends more ​quickly and more strongly in terms of ​interceptors, because that is the key issue from a defensive point ⁠of view,” said President of France Emmanuel Macron, summarizing his meeting with US President Donald Trump.

President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda has criticized the new political map of the world published by the UN because Crimea, which is temporarily occupied by russia, was depicted separately from Ukraine. “The threat from russia is not limited to Ukraine. Lithuania and other European countries are also facing violations of their borders,” he pointed out.

“And today, when I hear someone say, ‘Give up some of your land’ to this 21st -century totalitarian regime, it reminds me of 1938, when Prime Minister Chamberlain returned from Munich, where he had struck a deal with Hitler. He arrived in London with the news for his people that he had brought peace. And we remember what happened less than a year later,” said Member of the European Parliament Rasa Juknevičienė.

In Latvia, amendments to the law have come into force that will allow the authorities to faster raise charges for the use of Latvian railways for the transit of grain from russia by 300%. Revenue from the increased tariffs is to be channeled towards aid for Ukraine. The increased charge will apply to all grain shipments where the station of departure is located in russia – even if the goods themselves were brought in from a third country. The new rule also applies to grain transported via the Latvian railway to ports for onward export to other countries.

This is the joint position not only of Lithuania but also of the European Union,” stated Motuzas.

The ministry of finance of the rf has announced cuts to civilian budget expenditure to fund the war against Ukraine. In total, since the start of 2022, the kremlin has spent over 57 trillion roubles (~EUR 594 billion) on the army.

In the first three months of the 2026/27 season, russian wheat exports are estimated at 5.4 million tons, which is by 53% less than a year earlier and 58% below the five-year average of 12.9 million tons.
