Yevhen Konovalets, Ukrainian statesman, military and political figure, Colonel of the Army of the People's Republic of Ukraine, Commander of the Sich Riflemen, leader of the Ukrainian Nationalists’ Movement (1927), founder and the first head of the OUN (1929–1938).

From the bulletin of the OUN (Issue5, May 1942) on the fourth anniversary of the assassination of Yevhen Konovalets: “Ye. Konovalets taught that the nation can achieve independence and statehood through a revolutionary path and collective efforts of all its living forces, therefore he himself worked and told others to work on the comprehensive organization of those forces and the coverage of all spheres of national life.

Ye. Konovalets taught all-Ukrainian patriotism, taking care of the integrity of the Ukrainian liberation cause, organizing the revolutionary-liberation struggle on all Ukrainian lands, fighting partisanship and political obscurantism.

Ye. Konovalets determined for the Ukrainian people an infallible and unchanging path to the Great Future and a clear line of political struggle, leading it for twenty years under the most difficult circumstances of the occupation steadfastly and straight to the Great Goal” (BSA of the SZR of Ukraine. - F. 1. - Case 6964. – V. 1. – P. 137).
